Europaeum launches new initiative series with alumni
The Europaeum’s first formal alumni event took place at the Royal Overseas League in London on March 2nd with a select group 12 of our outstanding alumni graduates – drawn from our Jenkins and Oxford-Geneva bursary programmes, from our joint MA in European History, and from those who participated in some of our summer schools, graduate workshops and debates (see here for those taking part). The initiative was sparked by discussions arising out of our 20th anniversary strategy, to review some of our past achievements, and takes place thanks to a generous supporter. The evening began with a lively open discussion about how those who have benefitted from our programmes, can be brought together, constructively, and how they can continue to contribute in the face of current challenges facing European societies – for example in protecting civil liberties or providing some collective leadership in a particular area. The event has led to regular follow-up events linked to the new Europaeum Focus Days held in Oxford, then in Geneva and now back in Oxford each involving some 30 select Europaeum graduates.
