June 2021
Europaeum Scholars Programme
Module ‘Global Governance and Multilateralism’
EUROPAEUM SCHOLARS PROGRAMME
Our latest module was held 7 to 11 June, online. We are grateful to our colleagues at the Graduate Institute in Geneva, several of whom have been involved in the programme for this module. The focus has been on global governance and multilateralism. Understandably this has involved several discussions of how the current pandemic has impacted global governance issues in relation to health governance and trade, but we have also had sessions on longer-standing and pressing issues including UN reform, the challenge from the private sector, the sustainable development goals, and migration governance. We have had a range of distinguished speakers from the academic and policy worlds (and may who bridge the two), including Hanne Beirens, Thomas Biersteker, Vincent Chetail, Marie MacAuliffe, Kalypso Nicolaïdis, Kali Taylor, and Dariusz Wójcik. Half of this module has been devoted to project work. The groups have all started writing their policy documents, are drawing upon a wealth of research that they have conducted over the last nine months, are making excellent progress and are on track to deliver interesting and important recommendations in the autumn.
The next module will take place in late August, hopefully in Oxford.
