WINTER SCHOOL 2022
22-25 FEBRUARY 2022
UPF, BARCELONA
We live in a time characterized by the massive deterioration of Earth’s natural systems that exacerbates social inequalities and threatens the existence of humanity. We need coordinated, massive and innovative scientific and social efforts of unprecedented complexity and urgency. Academic institutions must embrace concepts of planetary stewardship in all their actions. The concept of Planetary Well-being, understood as the highest level of well-being achievable for human and non-human beings, within the sustainable planetary limits, is an invitation to face the complex and urgent challenges of the Anthropocene. (https://www.upf.edu/web/wellbeing)
The EUROPAEUM and the Universitat Pompeu Fabra would like to invite 20-25 students to Barcelona to discuss Planetary Health and Planetary Wellbeing and ask if it is possible to integrate the Humans and the Planet in a single concept? The primary goal of the 2022 Winter School is to increase knowledge and understanding of the set of complex, interrelated and systemic issues affecting the wellbeing of humans, animals and the planet itself. Our curriculum will comprise of lectures, paper presentations, debates, structured group discussions around carefully selected case-studies, as well as study visits.
The EUROPAEUM Winter School is aimed at advanced graduate students from the universities within the Europaeum network (https://europaeum.org/member-network/). We welcome applications from students who wish to either just join the discussions, or present a paper. Applications should include the EUROPAEUM application form, a brief CV, a statement of purpose (up to 500 words), and a reference letter by their supervisor or academic advisor. Those who wish to submit a paper should also add a short abstract of the proposed paper (up to 500 words). Successful candidates will be provided with accommodation free of charge and will be reimbursed reasonable travel expenses within Europe.

EUROPAEUM POLICY SEMINAR
Policy-making Inside Europe
24-26 January 2022
Brussels
The EUROPAEUM is pleased to invite applications for our traditional Policy Making Seminar (normally taking place in Brussels). The 2022 Policy Seminar, organized in collaboration with the European Parliamentary Research Service (DG EPRS) is a joint effort to link academic and policy institutions, contributing to a better understanding of the process of preparation and implementation of EU policies. Programme will include talks and discussions with those at the sharp end of policy and decision-making in Brussels. The 2022 edition will aim at identifying and framing some of the key issues and policy areas that are likely to feature prominently on the political agenda of the European Union over the coming year, including the Conference on the Future of Europe; EU crisis management and post-COVID economic recovery, as well as the EU-NATO cooperation in the context of transatlantic relations. More detailed discussion in working groups will be organized with the accent on pluralism of opinions, recommendations and understanding of key policy challenges.
The EUROPAEUM would like to invite to Brussels up to 20 students currently enrolled on master’s or PhD courses at a EUROPAEUM member university. Successful candidates will be provided with accommodation free of charge and will be reimbursed reasonable travel expenses within Europe.
