One of the Europaeum Scholars groups has produced a documentary to raise awareness of community urban gardens across Europe. Their project, ‘Green Together’ produced a tool which allows stakeholders to see the potential return on investment of turning a site into an urban garden and outlined ways in which the EU could provide support for urban gardens. Another proposal was that awareness about community urban gardens – which take a range of forms – be raised, including via a knowledge-sharing platform.
Not content to merely recommend awareness-raising, the group decided to produce a short film that would show the vibrancy of three urban gardens in Hungary, Italy, and Spain. Using the voices of those who manage and maintain the gardens, the film highlights what such spaces contribute to their communities, in terms of social benefits, quality of life, and climate mitigation. The group all contributed to the project in different ways – one Scholar flew a drone as part of the process, another helped to repair the fabric of one of the gardens (and appears briefly in the film), others helped script the final version.
We are proud to share their efforts with you, which you can watch here.
