History Seminar: Maps, maps and maps

By December 2, 2025No Comments

Weaving their way through history, geography, themes and times, the students and speakers at the Europaeum History seminar journeyed through various maps of Europe and the world.

We share below some images from what were two intellectually stimulating days of presentations, talks and connections being made.

Images from the following presentations are displayed below:

  • Professor Natalia Nowakowska (Oxford), The Jagiellonians: The Pasts and Futures of a European Renaissance Dynasty”
  • Nuri Kurnaz (Amsterdam and Europaeum MA alumnus), “Imagining Europe: Co-imperialism or Imperial Exceptionalism?”
  • Georgina Requena (Pompeu Fabra), “How Historical Memories and Political Imaginaries Were Used to Overcome Moments of State  and Imperial Crisis in Late 19th-Century Spain”
  • Floris van Doorn (Helsinki), “Reimagining Eurafrica: The EU Emergency Trust Fund for Africa”
  • Frederik Wolter (Oxford), “’Tutti devoti del culto leonardiano’: the Leonardo da Vinci Quincentenary (1952-1953) and the Making of a European Historical Identity in Postwar Italy”
  • Tracey Sowerby (Oxford), “The Future of European Diplomatic History”
  • Antonio Pattori (Oxford), “A Continent of Conspiracies: Towards a Transnational History of 16th-Century Europe”

We would like to thank all speakers and students who participated in the event and to our hosts at the Bodleian – Dr Martin Davis and at the Ashmolean – Dr Jim Harris.
