Julian Uhlenbusch is a PhD candidate and research assistant at Free University of Berlin. He focuses on channels for the extraterritorial diffusion of law and on EU digital and climate law. His doctoral thesis examines the phenomenon and theory of the so-called Brussels Effect, its normative implications under EU constitutional law, and ways of implementing the Brussels Effect in EU legislation. Another strand of his research concerns the EU’s regulation of digital systemic risks and how this transforms institutions, governance mechanisms and connected societal processes. Before coming to Berlin, he passed his First Law Examination at LMU in Munich and spent a semester abroad at Chuo University in Tokyo. In his free time, Julian volunteers as a tutor, plays handball, paints, and reads.
