Oliver Jakes is a DPhil Candidate in English at the University of Oxford, researching how popular culture explored, challenged, and explained social and economic change in England following the Financial Revolution, with a particular focus on the theatre. His work examines popular responses to early stock market crashes, colonialism, and changing ideas of citizenship, property, and gender in the age of the French Revolution.
Oliver holds an MPhil in English from the University of Cambridge, and a BA in History and English from the University of Oxford. He is a writer and co-founder at The American Library Project, an advocacy initiative that shares stories from America’s public libraries. His writing has featured in a range of publications including National Geographic and Earth Island Journal.
