Topi Juga

Topi is a doctoral researcher in Political History at the University of Helsinki. His dissertation focuses on post-Cold War European integration and the formation of Finland’s EU policy during the country’s early membership years (1995–1999). He examines the 1996 Intergovernmental Conference, the negotiations on European Economic and Monetary Union (EMU), and the preparations for the EU’s Eastern enlargement as case studies to assess Finland’s strategic choices and willingness toward integration as a new EU member state.

Currently Topi lives in Berlin, where he also writes articles as a journalist focusing on the EU and Germany. Previously Topi has worked with EU affairs as a civil servant in the Prime Minister’s office of Finland, as an advisor to an MEP in the European Parliament as well as a journalist. Topi enjoys playing tennis, reading and spending time with his friends and family.
