Third alumni seminar: How to get a job in the EU institutions – and how not to get one, Thursday 17 July, 4.30pm UK / 17.30 hours CEST

Join us for the next Europaeum alumni online seminar!

In the third instalment of our seminars, Dr Martin Westlake and Hannah Buchinger – two speakers with unique, insiders’ perspectives on working in the EU – will discuss how to go about securing a role in one of the EU institutions and how not to. Dr Martin Westlake is the author of ‘Working for the EU: How to get in‘ (2024) – a book he wrote under the pseudonym Johannes de Berlaymont. He was Secretary General of the EU Economic and Social Committee from 2008 to 2013, and is now Visiting Professor at the College of Europe, Bruges, and the LSE.

Hannah Buchinger is Head of Office and Policy Advisor to Evelyn Regner, MEP and works in the European Parliament in Brussels.

There will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions or comment from the digital floor.

The seminar will take place on Thursday 17 July 2025 at 4.30 – 6.00 pm UK local time / 17.30 – 19.00 hours Central European Summer Time.

Attendees need to register in advance via this Zoom registration link.
