This week our students taking the MA in European History and Civilization had their matriculation ceremony in the University of Oxford, which recognises them as official students of the university. Having spent a term each at Leiden university (which awards the degree) and at Paris 1 Panthéon Sorbonne, they are now finishing their thesis here in Oxford, based at Balliol, Keble and St Hilda’s colleges.
This year’s cohort have been working on exciting thesis topics that explore i) early modern diplomacy and the performance of gender identities, ii) attitudes to slavery in eighteenth-century France, iii) economic theory in eighteenth-century Britain, and iv) political attitudes at a local level in inter-war Austria. Once they have submitted their theses they will have an oral examination and graduation in Leiden in August.
We are wishing all the best to our students: Lorenz Buchinger, Clementine Rixhon, John Gaffey, and Theocharis (Harry) Chatzimanolis!
