The Impact of Elections

Brussels, 25–27 September 2024

The Europaeum is pleased to invite applications for our longstanding Policy Making Seminar in Brussels. 2024 is a pivotal year for elections across Europe and the globe, with major democratic processes unfurling in Europe, America, and likely also Britain. September will see the new European Parliament meet and a new political landscape crystalise across the EU. It will also see the start of the intensive phase in what may prove to be America’s most divisive presidential vote ever.

The 2024 Policy Seminar explores the impact of these elections – in Europe and beyond – on the European institutions and the processes of preparing and implementing EU policies. The programme will include visits to the EU Commission and Parliament, and will involve talks and discussions with top decision-makers and analysts engaged with understanding and reacting to political developments.

The Europaeum would like to invite to Brussels up to 20 students currently enrolled on master’s or PhD courses at a EUROPAEUM member university. Successful candidates will be provided with accommodation free of charge and will be reimbursed reasonable travel expenses within Europe. Please note, for this event this may be in a shared twin room.

Applications should include the Europaeum application form, a brief CV, a statement of purpose (up to 500 words), and a reference letter from their supervisor or academic advisor. Those who wish to submit a paper should also add a short abstract of the proposed paper (up to 500 words).
